JLS release their brand new single ‘Proud’ this week with proceeds from it being given to the Sport Relief charity. They have good form with five of their nine singles released so far have gone on to top the charts with only their last outing ‘Do You Feel What I Feel’ missing out on the top ten. Their performance on the album chart has been impressive too with their self titled debut topping the charts with the follow ups ‘Outta This World’ and ‘Jukebox’. The single is released on both CD and MP3 formats and should not be confused with the M People’s song of the same name which has been used in conjunction with this years Olympics. The charity angle will guarantee the song exposure and with their track record they can be assured of being at the top end of next weekends chart.

Katy Perry is back with her brand new single ‘Part Of Me’ this week. It features on the repackaged version of her ‘Teenage Dream’ album which is entitled ‘The Complete Confection’. The track has already topped the American charts, her seventh single to do so.  In the UK this will be her eleventh top forty hit and could add to her five top three singles (including two no.1’s – ‘California Gurls’ and ‘I Kissed A Girl’). She has also appeared on top three hits by 3OH!3 and Timbaland. This track first appeared in demo form back in 2010 but has taken until now to gain a full release.  Over that period the lyrics have been changed, thought by some to be the result of her marriage to and divorce from comedian Russell Brand.  Perry however denies this.  Whatever the truth this should be challenging for the top spot next Sunday afternoon.

Madonna’s latest single ‘Gimme All Your Luvin” gets a CD single release this week.  It sees her team up with M.I.A. and Nicki Minaj but so far it has only managed to get as far as no.37.  Part of its disappointing performance was down to sales being excluded when it was offered as a free download to anyone who pre-ordered her forthcoming ‘MDNA’ album. That said most people would still have expected sales to be higher and it remains to be seen whether the release on this format can help to change things.  Her career speaks for itself with thirteen no.1 hits and over fifty top forty appearances.  She is still capable of holding her own and a follow up single ‘Girls Gone Wild’ is also set for release in the coming weeks.  I think this may re-enter the top forty but I can’t see it making the top ten.

Twenty two year old Hackney based rapper Labrinth has a claim to fame in that he is the first act in six years to sign to Simon Cowell’s record label Syco. So far he has enjoyed top three singles with ‘Let The Sun Shine’ and ‘Earthquake’ while also being credited as a featured artist on Tinie Tempah’s no.1 hit ‘Pass Out’ and the no.2 follow up ‘Frisky’.  This week sees him release ‘Last Time’ as his new single and it comes two weeks ahead of his debut album ‘Electronic Earthquake’. As a producer he has worked with Tinchy Stryder, Loick Essien, Yasmin, Wretch 32 and Ms Dynamite while his remixing skills have been applied to both Gorillaz and Jessie J.  This is sure to be another big hit for him and I would not be surprised to see his album go all the way to the top spot.

British Ghanaian rapper Lethal Bizzle has now seven top forty hits to his name and one as part of More Fire Crew. It was as part of More Fire Crew that he secured his first and biggest hit so far ‘Oi’. His track ‘Kickback’ track went on to feature on the FIFA Street 2 game but his first solo hit was ‘Pow (Forward)’ which also saw him win a MOBO Award for Best Single. He signed to V2 records back in 2005 and released his ‘Against All Oddz’ album soon afterwards. His most recent hit ‘Look Up To The Sky’ saw him team up with Jamal Haddaway and this week sees him return with his new single ‘Not A Saint’ which also features a guest appearance from Donae’o. He has a new album due later this year on 360 Records and will hope to return to the chart with this new single.

Retro pop duo Summer Camp release their new single ‘Losing My Mind’ this week.  It is taken from their album ‘Welcome To Condale’ and comes with an acoustic version of the track sat alongside remixes from Saint Etienne, Dawn Golden and Rosy Cross. The video depicts the band having their school photograph taken in the 1980s and even features a Rubiks Cube! The band consist of singer Elizabeth Sankey and multi instrumentalist Jeremy Warmsley who had released solo material including two albums prior to joining.  They are signed to the Moshi Moshi label and released their first single ‘Ghost Train’ back in 2010. They are set to play a series of gigs during March before heading off to play live across Europe. I’m not sure this will be a big hit but anyone unaware of them could do worse than check out their album.

Angel teams up with Wretch 32 on his new single ‘Go In Go Hard’. He has a fast growing reputation with his first solo show selling out in less than two hours. Radio 1 have declared him to be the new face of UK r’n’b while he was put forward for both MTV Brand New and HMV’s The Next Big Thing. He has toured with Dappy and is rumoured to be in talks about appearing as a writer and producer on Tulisa’s debut solo album. The single is released on Universal Island Records and features the CASSETTi Remix, the MDM Reggae Remix and the new track ‘Ride Out’ which features Sneakbo. Although this is its first release as a single it did feature on the compilation R&B Collection 2012. This looks set to be a big hit next weekend and Angel will certainly take a step towards becoming a household name during this year.

The acclaimed Indie duo Blood Red Shoes release their third studio album ‘In Time To Voices’ on the V2 label next week and preceding that this week comes their latest single ‘Cold’. It comes released as a 7″ vinyl single and a digital download which both feature the new track ‘Hundred Million Percent’. They have yet to reach the top forty with their highest charting single being the reissue of ‘You Bring Me Down’ which made no.64 in 2008. Their first album ‘Box Of Secrets’ was released in 2008 and reached no.47 though its follow up ‘Fire Like This’ did less well, peaking at no.95. They are undergoing a UK and European tour during April and May and will be hoping that the album achieves both critical and commercial success. Fans will be keen to collect the single and listen to the b side but I still can’t see it being a hit for them.

‘New France’ is the latest single by dance legends Orbital.  It is taken from their forthcoming studio album ‘Wonky’ which is set for release early in April. They have enjoyed forteen top forty hits across their career including their two top three hits ‘The Saint’ and ‘Satan (Live)’ which came back to back in 1996 / 1997. Their last top forty hit came back in 2004 with ‘One Perfect Sunrise / You Lot’ which peaked at no.29. Following that the band took a five year break before reforming to headling The Big Chill in 2009. The new single ‘New France’ features Zola Jesus and contains three new mixes on the digital release; The L-Vis 1990’s Rewound Mix, the Tom Middleton Cosmos Mix and the Hydraulic Dogs Mix. They have a good following and this could well secure them a return to the mainstream chart.

Also released this week are ‘Young Homie’ by Chris Rene, ‘Jackson’ by Craig Finn, ‘RS27′ by Japanese Popstars, Men Of Harlech / Tell My Father’ by Mark Llewelyn Evans & The Band Of The Welsh Guards, ‘Va Va Voom’ by Nicki Minaj, ‘She Doesn’t Mind’ by Sean Paul, ‘Stick Figures In Love’ by Steven Malkmus & The Jicks and ‘Losing Myself’ by Will Young.

My money is on Katy Perry to top the charts next weekend although JLS and Gotye featuring Kimbra may yet have a say in that. Don’t forget to stop by next week when artists releasing new singles look set to include All American Rejects, Chris Brown, James Morrison and Tom Jones.  Until then have yourself a good week.
