There were five new entries, eight climbers, nineteen songs going down and eight non movers on this weeks chart. Nico & Vinz got a non mover at the top with ‘Am I Right’ while MAGIC! remained their closest rivals with ‘Rude’ also becoming a non mover at no.2.

One Republic got a non mover at no.3 with ‘Love Runs Out’ and Kiesza got the weeks highest new entry with ‘Giant In My Heart’ entering at no.4. Ella Henderson climbed one to no.5 with ‘Ghost’ and George Ezra fell one to no.6 with ‘Budapest’.Zhu got a non mover at no.7 with ‘Faded’ while Ariana Grande featuring Iggy Azalea also found themselves with ‘Problem’ being a non mover at no.8. Cheryl Cole featuring Tinie Tempah fell five to no.9 with ‘Crazy Stupid Love’ and Charli XCX went down one to no.10 with ‘Boom Clap’.

There were three climbers and one new entry to be found in what remained of the top twenty. Ed Sheeran climbed three places to no.11 with ‘Don’t’ and Rizzle Kicks went straight in at no.14 with ‘Tell Her’. John Legend climbed two to no.15 with ‘All Of Me’ and the final climber went to Ed Sheeran who climbed two to no.16 with ‘Thinking Out Loud’.

There were three new entries and four climbers in the lower half of the chart. The final new entry came at no.40 and went to Sam Smith with ‘I’m Not The Only One’.

New Releases

Aloe Blacc – ‘Hello World’

First up this week is thirty five year old American singer songwriter Aloe Blacc who has already had two top ten albums and two top ten singles to his name. He also wrote and performed vocals on Avicii’s huge hit ‘Wake Me Up’ with his own solo version becoming a minor hit reaching no.69. His last Elton John sampling single ‘The Man’ was a huge worldwide hit and it went on to top the charts in the UK. It took just over ten days for the video to his new single ‘Hello World’ to pass the 500k views mark and this is certain to become his third UK hit. The track does not feature on his current album ‘Lift Your Spirit’ so there should be no shortage of interest from his army of fans. It is an uplifting track and should pick up plenty of airplay over the coming weeks. Taking that fact into account it should become a top ten hit for him next Sunday afternoon.

Chris Malinchak featuring Mikky Ekko – ‘Stranger’

One of the acts aiming for a high new entry is the American DJ and producer Chris Malinchak who opened his chart account last year when his single ‘So Good To Me’ made no.2. It was a huge hit all around Europe too reaching the top ten in Belgium, Ireland and the Netherlands while the video has received an impressive 19m views. The follow up was ‘If U Got It’ but that fared less well, reaching just no.23 and notching up less than 1m views for the video.  Now he has teamed up with fellow American singer / songwriter Mikky Ekko for his brand new single ‘Stranger’ which is released this week on the Sony label. The track has a retro disco feel to it and that style seems to fitI Ekko’s vocals perfectly. I really like this and feel that there is every chance that this can go on and give him a third top forty hit next Sunday afternoon.

David Guetta featuring Sam Martin – ‘Lovers On The Sun’

French DJ and producer David Guetta already has an impressive eighteen top ten hits in the UK to his name with five of those going on to top the charts. This week sees him team up with Sam Martin for the release of his new single ‘Lovers On The Sun’. An album of the same name is rumoured to be in the pipeline and it is likely to round up his last three singles ‘Shot Me Down’, ‘Bad’ and ‘Blast Off’. As you would expect David is booked in for several appearances round Europe this month but will be in the UK at Bellahouston Park in Glasgow on the 16th and the Tennents Vital Festival in Belfast on the 24th. Fans able to travel a little further afield can catch him at Pasha in Ibiza every Thursday over the Summer period. Everything he touches tends to turn to gold so we can safely expect this to put in an appearance inside the top forty at the weekend.

Haim featuring A$AP Ferg – ‘My Song 5’

Los Angeles based band Haim topped the charts with their debut album ‘Days Are Gone’ and they won the Best International Band at the 2014 NME Awards while being nominated for the same honour at the BRITs. They already have four top forty singles to their name and are aiming for a fifth hit no.5 with ‘My Song 5’. The track has been remixed since its original appearance on ‘Days Are Gone’ and now includes the talents of American hip hop artist A$AP Ferg.  Their critically acclaimedappearance at the Latitude Festival last month looks to have concluded their British live dates for 2014 but they do have a couple of US gigs planned this month before returning to hopefully write some brand new material in the studio. It’s hard to say whether this can actually secure them another hit single, and but we will certainly find out the answer soon enough.

Royal Blood – ‘Figure It Out’

British rock duo Royal Blood have achieved two top 75 hits so far with ‘Little Monster’ and ‘Come On Over’ and their recent Glastonbury set was one of the highlights of the festival. Their self titled debut album is set for release next week and they are aiming to see their brand new single ‘Figure It Out’ give them a first ever UK top forty hit. This week sees them play live at Bramham Park alongside acts including Vampire Weekend, Papa Roach, The Kooks and The 1975 before jetting off for an extensive tour of the US and Canada. The video to the track was uploaded on the 8th July and it took less than two weeks to get past 100k views. They have over 24k followers on Twitter and over 75k Likes on Facebook and with such a sizeable fanbase the album is almost certain to be a big success. However whether this can make it to the top forty as a standalone track remains to be seen.

Ting Tings – ‘Wrong Club’

The Ting Tings are back this week with their new single ‘Wrong Club’, which is the first track to be lifted from their forthcoming album ‘Super Critical’.  Fans have already been able to download this ahead of the album’s release along with ‘Only Love’ and ‘Super Critical’ so many may own this already. It represents a shift in sound as this has almost a 70’s disco feel to it, a change in mood to some of their earlier material. However that is to their credit, and the band have said that they don’t want to compromise their output to achieve hit singles. It would have been much easier to put out something which replicated the sound of the first two albums but this shows that they have more than one string to their bow. I’m a big fan of all three tracks released so far and look forward to the album getting it’s full release in October.

T.I. featuring Iggy Azalea – ‘No Mediocre’

American rapper, producer and actor already has four UK top forty hits to his name in his own right but he has had bigger singles as a guest artist including ‘Blurred Lines’ with Robin Thicke, ‘My Love’ with Justin Timberlake, ‘Change Your Life’ with Iggy Azalea and ‘Soldier’ with Destiny’s Child.  His biggest UK hit came with ‘Live Your Life’ with saw him team up with Rihanna, peaking at no.2.  Former collaborator Iggy Azalea returns the favour this week from his appearance on ‘Change Your Life’ as she in turn features on his new single ‘No Mediocre’. The video has proved to be a huge success around the world, clocking up over 13m views during its first month of upload to his Vevo account. The track has already climbed the charts in the US, Australia and New Zealand and it looks certain to be doing the same in the UK next Sunday afternoon.

Union J – ‘Tonight (We Live Forever)’

Finally under review this week is ‘Tonight (We Live Forever)’ which is the brand new single by boyband Union J. Last year saw them capitalise on their prior year X Factor success with their two singles ‘Carry You’ and ‘Beautiful Life’ reaching the top ten and their self titled debut album doing the same. Since then the band have left Epic Records and are now signed to the RCA label, with this new single being the first track to be lifted from their as yet untitled second album. They have three live appearances confirmed for the remainder of this month; one at the Scarborough Open Air Theatre, another at TLive in Telford and finally a slot at the Fusion Festival in Birmingham. This track has already been performing well on pre-order sales and there is certainly an expectation that this will continue their unbroken run of top ten hit singles.

Wankelmut & Emma Louise – ‘My Head Is A Jungle (MK Remix)’

The final artist under discussion this week is the Berlin based DJ and producer Wankelmut who is best known around Europe for his remix of the Asaf Avidan & The Mojo’s hit ‘One Day / Reckoning Song’. The track only reached no.30 in the UK but went on to reach no.1 in Austria, Belgium, German, Italy and Switzerland. Now he is aiming for success as the lead artist with the MK Remix of his single ‘My Head Is A Jungle’ which sees him team up with vocalist Emma Louise. Various remixes of the track have already appeared on compilation albums including the Gui Boratto Remix and the Solee Remix. A new video to accompany the remix was uploaded at the start of July and picked up over 100k views during its first month. The track made the top five in Italy and the top thirty in Germany and could well replicate that success in the UK next weekend.

Also released this week are ‘Never Say Never’ by Basement Jaxx, ‘Little White Lies’ by Florrie, ‘Ghost In The Mirror’ by Mallory Knox, ‘Red Cassette’ by Mamas Gun, ‘Make Believer’ by Morcheeba, ‘Koala’ by Oliver Heldens, ‘My Type EP’ by Saint Motel, ‘Games’ by TCTS, ‘No Mediocre’ by T.I. featuring Iggy Azalea, ‘TRYXE EP’ by Troye Sivan, ‘Take Shelter’ by Years & Years and ‘Heart Out’ by The 1975.

Next Week…

David Guetta looks set to top the charts with his new single ‘Lovers On The Sun’ while Wankelmut & Emma Louise and Union J both look set for high new entries. Don’t forget to stop by next week when artists releasing new singles look set to include Ashley Roberts, Klangkarussell, Maroon 5 and Wiley. Until then have yourself a good week.
