Chris Brown has been in the headlines for the wrong reasons recently following an alleged brawl with Drake and rumours of a rekindled romance with former love Rihanna. This week will hopefully see the focus return to this music vial the release of his new single ‘Don’t Wake Me Up’. The digital release also includes the Free School / William Orbit remix of the track alongside new songs ‘Till I Die’ (which also features Big Sean & Wiz Khalifa) and ‘Sweet Love’.  It’s the first offering from his new album ‘Fortune’ which is due for release next week. Earlier this year saw ‘Turn Up The Music’ from his previous album ‘Fortune’ become his first chart topper so his popularity remains relatively unblemished from the bad press.  This will be another monster hit for him and should certainly be challenging at the top end of the chart on Sunday afternoon.

‘Archaeology’ is the latest release from Aylesbury based band Sweet Billy Pilgrim. Their first album ‘We Just Did What Happened And No-One Came’ was released on the Wonderland Avenue album label back in 2005 and followed that up four years later with ‘Twice Born Men’.  This year has seen the completion of their ‘Crown & Treaty’ album which has received five star reviews from Mojo, The Mail On Sunday and The Daily Express. They gained some publicity by appearing as themselves on an episode of the IT Crowd, and Jen from the series appeared on ‘Kalypso’ which is the b side to the single ‘Future Perfect Tense’. That single also promoted the band by appearing as part of the band Rock Band 2. Given their previous history I’m not sure that they will make the top forty with this but their current album has certainly made critics sit up and take note.

Dan Le Sac scored his main commercial successes with Scroobius Pip but this week sees him team up with Sarah Williams White on his new single ‘Play Along’. The track is the first to come from his forthcoming album ‘Space Between The Words’.  The digital version features a variety of new mixes including the Gavin Herlihy Dark Side Remix, the Waze & Odyssey Garage $ale, the Krystal Klear Remix, the Fungle VIP and the Sunday Best Sundown Remix, As a duo with Scroobius Pip he saw ‘Thou Shalt Not Kill’ reach the top forty with the accompanying ‘Angles’ album reaching no.31. The second album ‘Logic Of Chance’ made a respectable no.43 but Pip decided to release a solo effort, ‘Distraction Pieces’, which reached no.35. Whether Le Sac can match that success remains to be seen, but it is more likely to come with the album and not the single.

Following his stint as a judge on The Voice will.i.am is back with his new single He first charted in his own right back in 2007 with ‘I Got It From My Mama’ which peaked at no.37 and featured on his album ‘Songs About Girls’. He then guested on the update of Michael Jackson’s classic ‘The Girl Is Mine’ but that still dropped short of the top forty. His big break came with ‘Heartbreaker’ which peaked at no.4 and saw him team up with Cheryl Cole. His last single ‘T.H.E. (The Hardest Ever)’ was his highest charting track to date, peaking at no.3 and also featured the talents of Mick Jagger and Jennifer Lopez. This week sees him release ‘This Is Love’ which sees him collaborate with Eva Simons and is another track which features on his forthcoming ‘#willpower’ album.  Should be a high new entry but perhaps not a challenger for the top spot.

‘Everytime We Fight’ is the latest single from The Milk and follows up on the critically acclaimed ‘Broke Up The Family’ which was released earlier this year.  The digital version features various new mixes including the Radio Edit, the Swindle Remix, the Kidnap Kid Remix and the CSY & Stripes Remix while fans can also snap up a limited edition signed 7″ vinyl edition of the single. The single will feature on their forthcoming album ‘Tales Of The Thames Delta’ which is set for release later this year. This weekend they have been performing at the Isle Of Wight Festival while the Summer also has them booked in for appearances at Lounge On The Farm (Canterbury), T In The Park, the Stockton Weekender and V. Fans can listen to streams of other tracks on their website and this could yet give them a debut top forty appearance.

It’s nineteen years since R Kelly first surfaced with his ’12 Play’ album. It reached the top twenty and sold over 400k copies and featured his first top ten single ‘Bump N Grind’. However it wasn’t until 1996 that he first topped the chart with ‘I Believe I Can Fly’ with his only other no.1 hit ‘Ignition (Remix)’ coming seven years later. His most recent hit was 2007’s ‘Same Girl’ which saw him team up with Usher.  He failed to reach the top forty with any singles from his last album ‘Love Letters’ with the album itself dropping short of the top 100.  Now he is back with a new single entitled ‘Share My Love’ which is released this week.  It features on his new album ‘Write Me Back’ and could become his first hit in five years. Despite now being 45 years old he can still cut a decent r’n’b track and if this can pick up enough airplay it should chart.

‘There She Goes’ is the new single by the multi talented singer, songwriter and producer Taio Cruz and it sees him team up with the serial collaborator Pitbull. The track has already been a top ten success around Europe including Austria, Germany and Switzerland before gaining its official UK release this week. He has had eleven top forty hits in his career so far including no.1’s with ‘Dynamite’ and ‘Break Your Heart’. It’s taken from his ‘TY.O’ album which has yet to be fully released in the UK. The digital release comes with new mixes including the Moto Blanco Remix, the Moto Blanco Extended Remix and Rack ‘n’ Ruin Remix. This has been a little slower than usual at picking up airplay and I can’t see it adding a third no.1 to his current tally. This should still find itself inside the top forty next weekend though.

There is very definitely an r’n’b theme to this weeks new releases and following on from Chris Brown, will.i.am, R Kelly and Taio Cruz comes American singer / songwriter Jason Derulo with his latest release ‘Undefeated’. If successful it will be his ninth top forty hit in a career which has seen him top the chart with two singles; ‘In My Head’ and ‘Don’t Wanna Go Home’. Both of his albums ‘Jason Derulo’ and ‘Future History’ made the top ten but this is a brand new track which does not feature on either.  There is a surprising lack of remixes available at the moment with the digital release containing just the main track. I don’t think that this will become his third no.1 with again airplay being relatively slow. However despite that there is no reason not to expect to see it somewhere in the top forty.

Finally this week comes Canadian electronic superstar Deadmau5 who teams up with Chris James for his new single ‘The Veldt’. As you would expect the digital release of the single features a variety of new mixes including the Original Mix, the Freeform Five Remix and the Tommy Trash Short Edit alongside the new track ‘Failbait’.  So far he has enjoyed just two top forty hits with ‘I Remember’ (which featured Kascade) and ‘Ghosts ‘N’ Stuff’ (which featured Rob Swire). He is a prolific writer and since 2006 he has released over fifty singles despite the relatively low return in terms of commercial success. His live performances are legendary and ensure that he remains in high demand.  Last weekend saw him perform at Radio 1’s Hackney Festival to positive reviews.  I’m not sure that this will add to his top forty tally but that won’t worry him too much.

Also released this week are ‘Honeycomb’ by Animal Collective, ‘Icon’ by Benga featuring BeBe Black, ‘Metropolis’ by David Guetta & Nicky Romero, ‘Shout 2012’ by Dizzee Rascal, ‘New Lands’ by Justice, ‘The Keepers’ by Santigold, ‘Antarctica’ by Sound Of Guns, ‘Shuteye’ by Stealing Sheep and ‘Chemicals’ by Various Cruelties.

Maroon 5 featuring Wiz Khalifa have such a commanding lead that its hard to see them surrendering the top spot though Chris Brown could run them close. Don’t forget to stop by next week when artists releasing new singles are set to include The Darkness, Katy Perry, Plan B and Rizzle Kicks.  Until then have yourself a good week.
